Vanessa Phillips

Vanessa is thrilled to be a homeroom teacher at Kino. She plans to tackle a wide variety of subjects this year, ranging from writing and literature to sexual education. She also wants to continue working on wheel-throwing with students and co-running Go Club.

Vanessa was a student teacher at Kino during the fall semester of the 2006 – 2007 school year. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.A. in art education with an emphasis in ceramics. For the following six months she substitute taught in Tucson.

Vanessa hails from New Jersey, which can be proved by her peculiar accent on certain words. While she vows never to live there again, she makes frequent visits to the Garden State to see her family. She transferred from Montclair State University to the University of Arizona in 2003 after finding that, even though her visit was in the middle of August, she was smitten with Tucson. Her hobbies include ceramics, reading, having lofty goals of writing her own comic book, and playing her Wii. She also enjoys role playing and playing obscure board games.
