Neill Prohaska
Neill Prohaska primarily teaches junior high and high school science and math, and is a homeroom teacher. This year he is excited to also be teaching an interdisciplinary environmental studies class and a political economy class.
Neill was a Kino student from the age of 5 to 17, when he graduated from high school. After graduation he took some time off, studied for a year at Pima Community College, spent a summer beginning the process of learning Spanish in la Ciudad de Chihuahua, México, and then moved to Olympia, Washington to finish his undergraduate studies at The Evergeen State College. He spent five years at Evergreen (he didn't really want to graduate and leave) and earned both a BA and BS, with emphasis in political economy and biology, respectively. As an Evergreen student he spent his last year abroad studying issues of environment, health and development at the CIMAS Institute in Ecuador.
His interests and pastimes include rock climbing, hiking and backpacking, gardening, aquaculture, yoga, reading, listening to music, attempting to play music, and traveling. Whenever possible he enjoys visiting the village of Yunguilla, Ecuador, where he and Heather West helped the local workers' cooperative build an arts and crafts center with homemade kiln and kick-wheel, and develop a ceramics program to help with income generation and to increase youth participation in the co-op.
